In September of 2011, Paulo Prietto gathered together Harley Nelson, Anna Prophet, Steve Taylor and filmer Matt Adams for a trip of a lifetime. There they met up with Faith Huang, Exile's Taiwanese Distributor, and the dedicated skim community in Taiwan. Solag Skim School organized lessons with the skimboarders in the North, and then drove south to Kenting for the biggest Taiwanese Skimboard contest to date. Local support in Taiwan was huge, and the levels of stoke were at a maximum. Enough with the words, here's the video of the trip. A huge thanks to Faith Huang and everyone who helped put together this great adventure. Now sit back and enjoy!

SKIM DANCE REVOLUTION

Saturday, February 25th will mark the second annual, Skim Dance Revolution. A joint effort with Alley Oop, and their Fort Lauderdale shop, we will be putting on an Amatuer Skimboard Contest, along with a Professional Best Trick Contest and to top it all off a Freestyle Dance Battle at night. Last year's Dance Battle could have been the main event on it's own. Steve Taylor will be joining Jason Wilson to help run the event with the help of all the AO crew. We welcome all competitors from visiting areas to join, as there will be huge support from local and outside companies. If for some crazy reason Saturday's weather doesn't cooperate, we'll leave Sunday open as a possible back up day to run the event, though we'll do everything in our power to run it Saturday. Get signed up soon with Alley Oop. This year we will be doing a standard format for the am contest, instead of the trick format we did last year. We'll see you there!

Carter Hill Game of SKIM

Our good friend Jason Wilson, of Alley Oop sent over this video of one of our youngest riders, Carter Hill playing a game of skim against one of the head instructors this past summer in Delaware. Carter barely loses, but displays a healthy range of tricks (especially for his age), and is definitely one to watch in the future of skimboarding. The youth are alive and well in skimboarding, be on the lookout for more media from Carter and our other young riders. Enjoy!

Last year was a great success, so we had to get together with one of our favorite shops, Blonde John's, and do it all again. November 5th will be the second annual BAMA JAM. Last year we picked up Colton Wallace as a team rider, as we were impressed with not only his skills on his skimboard but also his huge love for the sport of skimboarding, and the support he puts back in. We're stoked to go back out and hype up the groms of Bama, and surrounding areas. Harley Nelson and Steve Taylor will be going out from California to make sure Bama feels the Exile love.

Blair Conklin Wins Santa Cruz!

One year ago, Blair Conklin made his professional debut at the Santa Cruz SkimBash. The second to last stop on the UST proved to be a special place for Blair, as he became the standout rider through every round of competition. 26th Avenue offered up fun 2-4 foot waves if you were skilled enough to pick them off. Though not always consistent, every heat offered highlights and Blair seemed to always make the most of what was on hand. He wrapped waves flawlessly, linking big spins, shuvits and 360-shuvits on liners as well as secondary side wave pushes from the southerly rocks at 26th Ave. Sam Stinnett was able to keep it close in the final, but with the 3rd and 4th place finishers both seemingly acquiring interference calls, it was clear that Blair or Sam would take the win.

With the frontside/backside rule in effect, making it necessary to go both ways to show a rider's overall talent and range, Blair was able to dominate the backsides, pull off a high scoring frontside, and sneak a lower scoring frontside wave to narrowly win the contest. Other close contenders included Brandon Sears who faught hard through to the semi's as well as Austin Keen, and Brad Domke, making 5 of the top 8, Exile Skimboards team riders. Ken Suzuki held it down for the amateur ranks with a 2nd place finish, in low tide tough conditions.

OKTOBERFEST 2011

The event is a wrap, and what a weekend it was. The sun shined bright Saturday and Sunday, and Poseidon blessed the beach with great waves for a competition. Sam Stinnett was able to clinch the UST title with a trip to the finals, and Brad Domke narrowly not making it out of his semi-final heat, and then to top it all off Sam put on a performance in the dying minutes of the stacked all-Exile final to take the 2011 Oktoberfest Crown. Exile Back to Taiwan!

Paulo Prietto, along with his Solag Skim School is teaming up with other Exile team riders including, Steve Taylor, Anna Prophet, Harley Nelson, and filmer Matt Adams for more lessons, camps and even an Exile Taiwan Skimboard Contest during the first two weeks of September. The first major contest Taiwan has ever seen! Faith Huang, distributor for Exile Skimboards has put in countless hours of work on the contest and in working with the government of Taiwan to gain support of the contest and camps. This will truly be a country-wide sensation, with the major highway from northern Taiwan all the way to southern Taiwan, where the contest will be held in Kenting, marked with banners/flags advertising the contest. Gulf Coast Camp/Contest!

Paulo Prietto and Steve Taylor are heading out to the Gulf Coast of Florida on Monday to do a 4 Day Solag Skim School Camp with Overhead Surf Shop in Madeira Beach, Florida. The Camp will go from Tuesday through Friday, and for more information regarding it click here.

On Saturday the 30th, Exile and Overhead have joined forces to put together a Pro/Am contest. Paulo and Steve will be joined be fellow team riders and other professionals to help judge and to mingle with the contestants and fans at the beach. Auction For Japan Relief!

Our Japanese distributor and owner of Resistance Wetsuits, Tetsuya Katsuge put on an auction for Paulo Prietto's hand painted Dude! Cruise. The auction was to support direct relief for victims of the Earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan recently. A great peice of history for an even better cause, the board went for 54000 Japanese Yen, equivalent to about $700 USDollars. There were 73 bids on the item within the short week that it was up. We are stoked to have been able to help such a cause. Thank you to Tetsuya, and to Japan for all of their continued support.

Green Eggs and Am!

Paulo Prietto and Steve Taylor have been putting together Amateur skimboarding events in Laguna Beach for 4 years straight now. With Stage 1 of the 2011 Trifecta over with you need to be sure not to miss Stage 2 at West Street this coming weekend and Stage 3 at Balboa Pier the following weekend.

Green Eggs and Am is a stress free contest scene with divisions set up based on rider ability and not age. There is no minimum or maximum age for competitors, every non-professional skimboarder is welcome to join. Here is a quick taste of the action from this past Sunday at 9th Street. See you Saturday the 12th at West Street for Stage 2!

We are heading over to Orlando, Florida from January 10th through the 14th for the annual Surf Expo Convention where we will spend time with our retailers to show them our 2012 product line. Austin 'Suess' Australia Recap

We were more than thrilled to be able to send Austin Keen down to SkimDulgence, the largest skimboarding event in Australia. Here is Austin's recap of his trip in true Dr. Suess fashion. Our team riders are not only talented in skimboarding but life in general! A huge thanks to Rad White for organizing the event and helping organize Austin's travels, and a big thanks to the Duncan brothers for handling our distribution in Australia as well as the Kaye brothers who shred our boards better than most can anywhere in the world. With no further ado here is Austin Suess' tale of Australia.

1 hour 2 hour 3 and 4..

15 go by until *OPEN* goes the door

A wave awaits, with warm beach sand

I hope this big arse plane will land

1 Aussie 2 Aussie 3 and 4

So many Aussies! Aussies galore!

For this is just one, of many tales

One that began, in New South Wales

A little town pumping, waves and coal

A little town but so much soul

A raindrop here, a rain drop there

Austin got the sickest wrap, of his trip that day

Exile is very proud to welcome two brothers of one of the most famous skim families in Europe: The Abrantes brothers. Andre, 21 and Diogo, 15 will be representing Exile to the fullest in Portugal. They eat, drink and sleep skimboarding. Their backyard hosts the beautiful beaches of Ericeira, the home to the best skimboarding conditions in all of Portugal, and possibly even Europe!

The Abrantes brothers are well known by the entire skim community in Europe and they dedicate much of their time to developing their skills in and out of the water.

Andre is also a singer in a band that went on to place in the top 40 for the Porguguese American Idol. Diogo has been winning and doing very well in his age division for years now, and has even stepped up to skim pro in some events. He was able to take down one of our American stars, Brad Domke in a heat recently. When asked about their choice to go with Exile, they noted that they were stoked to ride for a company that makes the best boards with the best quality. We are very stoked to welcome both Diogo and Andre to the Exile Family!

HASL MiniShaka Shakedown!

The Second Annual Exile Skimboards MiniShaka Shakedown is taking place on November 7th at Sandy Beach on Oahu. Big thanks to Erik Covarrubias, for putting in a ton of work to organize the HASL series of events. It's been a great way of bringing together the Hawaiian skimboarders from various islands, and it's helping the skim scene there tremendously. Anytime you can organize together groups of stoked skimboarders it can only mean good things. If there's any way you can make it to the event at Sandy's be sure to stop by, and you are sure to be greeted with smiles, shaka's, minishaka's, and more. Good luck to all that compete, and Mahalo's to all of the Hawaiian skimboarders.

Thanks also to our two team riders that still reside on the islands, Keiao Gucwa-Bucasas, and Clark Camp. We couldn't be more proud of the image these two put forward for us not only on the islands, but any time they are able to travel as well. Keep it up!

Contest Date Set Alabama!

We have a wonderful relationship with a shop by the name of Blonde John's Surf Shop. Johnny, the shop owner is a great guy, and we've been in talks about putting on an event with his Bama boys for quite some time. Over the last few trips to Florida and meeting and hanging out with some of the Bama boys, it was an obvious necessity that we had to go out to share our stoke in their great attitudes and support of the sport of skimboarding.

Great news, a date is set, and we are going! On Saturday November 13th, Brad Domke and Steve Taylor will be helping the crew at Blonde John's put on a skimboarding contest. We plan on bringing a ton of giveaways, and if we run out of things to give you, we can promise you some stoke. Austin Keen in Australia

Austin Keen is set to fly out this Thursday and spend 2 weeks with part of the Australian skim scene. A big thank you to Rad White for helping organize Austin's travels and taking care of him during his journey. This marks the first time a skim company has sent a top professional rider to Australia to promote the sport and we are proud to do it. With our Australian Distributors, the Robinson brothers, heading down for the event as well, it's sure to be a great time.

Skim Indulgence is held at a spot that can have a world class, heavy side-wave. If it was to be compared to other waves i would put it in the category of Sol Mar in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. It's a heavy, unforgiving slab of a shore break. Perfect for skimboarding. The tight-knit Aussie crew will be showing Austin around and expect to see media from the event soon after. Contest in Acapulco!

Woody Harris recently went to Acapulco, Mexico to support our contest with Acaskim and Punto Muerto Surf Shop. Here is his story of the trip!

I just recently traveled to Acapulco, Mexico and it was one of the shortest and at the same time exciting trips that I have ever been on. Acapulco is a really big city built right on the beach and the beach inside of a massive cove with small rock islands sitting in front of the beaches. If you are from California than you know that small islands greatly affect the swell that reaches certain beaches but in Acapulco these islands really don’t seem to stop any swell from coming in, it could be because Acapulco gets such massive swells, it’s only a few hours away from Puerto Escondido which is known for its consistent production of massive surf barrels.
There aren’t any side waves or liners, just giant wraps breaking right on shore. Which explains why the locals are so good at getting barreled. The first day I skimmed I was getting schooled by all of the locals, they can make some incredibly late wraps, similar to Laguna skimboarding legend Chris Henderson.
The contest was definitely something different than your normal professional skimboarding contest. There were only 9 pros in the contest which allowed us to try out a new format for a skimboarding contest, it was something similar to the current format of the ASP world surfing tour. A 3 man heat with the winner of that heat advancing to round 3, then in round two it was a 2 man battle with the winner advancing onto round 3. Then we repeated, round 3 winners advanced to a 4 man final and the losers fought for a spot in the final. I really enjoyed this format because it lets the competitors go for broke. Even if they do lose they will have a second chance. I think this will be the new format for skimboarding but it probably won’t take over until there is more money in the sport.
After the contest we just relaxed and enjoyed the city. There were tons of cheap and tasty restaurants along with extremely fun nightlife. If you’re expecting to visit somewhere with a lot of gringos, I don’t suggest Acapulco, the city is filled with visitors from all over Mexico, but nowhere else. During my stay the city seemed very safe which is contrary to what the news in the states were reporting, but now I have heard from friends living in Acapulco that the security has dropped and the officials are telling people not to go out at night, I’m very glad that I was blessed with a safe trip and I hope that the government can take care of the drug cartels who are taking over the state of Guerrero.
I really want to thank everyone who helped me have a safe trip, including Exile’s distributor Luis Uribe, and Punto Muerto shop owner Leo and I hope you all stay safe in Acapulco. Adios!

At Exile Skimboards, we pride ourselves in keeping things fresh. What better way to freshen things up than to have an all out battle of designers to make our 2011 bottom art designs?

Our favorite design will be used in our 2011 Line of Skimboards, and the winner will receive a brand new customizable Dude! Cruise in Sglass, our professional riders favorite style. A $410 value, but basically priceless. Other prizes for bottom arts that we choose to use will be gift certificates for anything from Exile Skimboards, with dollar amounts up to $250.

All entries should be CMYK, at a resolution of 150dpi or higher and in proper size, being 25" x 58". Designers need to design in full resolution and then send by email or post smaller versions on our Facebook page.

A couple things to keep in mind: The board outline is very approximate. Obviously a size large skimboard will be larger and a size XS will be way smaller. This is about size M....

To ensure your art is big enough, you should really design so that your art fills up the entire rectangle.

The attached psd is properly sized at 150dpi. You can do higher resolution if you want, but 150 should be sufficient.

You can email lower resolution jpgs to steve to submit the ideas or post them up on our facebook for people to comment on and see. Obviously if we like it, we will need the full file... which is why you should design in full resolution from the start. Otherwise, we cant use it and you dont get nothin...

You may submit as many ideas as you like. Good luck!!

6th Annual OKTOBERFEST!

The 6th Annual, 2010 Exile Skimboards and Main Street Surf Shop, Oktoberfest Contest is fast approaching. The dates are set for October 2nd, and 3rd. Oktoberfest is the close to the United Skim Tour, and as history has shown, it's come down to the final stop on the tour to see who will be crowned the World Champion. We were able to push the dates to an earlier weekend in the year in hopes of hitting better weather, and a better shot at swell. Last year was a huge success with Sam Stinnett winning the Professional division. Watch out for Sam, Austin Keen, Brad Domke and Brandon Sears who all have been red hot recently on tour.

We've added a women's professional division to keep up with the ever growing women's division and skill level.

We will not be limiting the number of competitors unless we are bombarded with more entries than usual, but it's always best to enter early to assure your spot! You can enter at Main Street Surf Shop or at Exile Skimboards.

We recently watched the Exile Skimboards YouTube Channel hit 1,000,000 views! It's always exciting to see the growth of a sport you love so much, and love skimboarding we do. Team Dominates OBX

The Outer Banks of North Carolina produce some of the best, most consistent skimboarding waves on the entire East Coast. This weekend was no exception, by Sunday competitors saw consistent waist high, glassy waves pushing through on an incoming swell and tide. Our Professionals dominated the contest, walking away with four of the top six positions breaking down like this:

Brad Domke- 2nd Place
Sam Stinnett- 4th Place
Austin Keen- 5th Place
Woody Harris- 6th Place

Our amateur's also faired very well. North Carolina local Perry Pruitt grabbed 3rd place in Jr. Men's. Here's a shot of Perry on a solid backside wrap.

In other AM news from the contest, Blair Conklin was able to not only take 1st place in Jr. Mens but also win the Semi Pro event. The Semi Pro division is basically a combination of all of the best amateur riders. This is quite the accomplishment for a West Coast rider to come and steal away the Semi Pro division on the East side of things. A big congratulations goes out to all of our team riders that competed. Here is a shot of why Blair is one of the best up and coming skimboarders in the world. A huge frontside spray, from a slash, and already back in position with speed looking straight down the line. Watch out world.

Domke Coming To Portugal!

Brad Domke is heading to Portugal to meet up with the Club Skim Norte to enter the first International contest of Club Skim Norte and Exile Skimboards in Portugal. The location will be the well known SkimBarrhinha in Esmoriz. Along side Club Skim Norte we will be hosting a bigger event than ever before, with professional riders from all over Europe who will have their chance to battle Brad Domke on their own turf for the first time.

Brad will also be making a tour and spreading the stoke at some of the best spots for skimboarding in Portugal. He will be hosting at least 1 camp, if not 2, for anyone that would like to learn from one of the best, most versatile skimboarders in the world. The first camp will be in conjunction with SkimBarrinha, on Friday, the 23rd of July. The contest will be happening the two days following the camp on the 24th and 25th.

We are doing this at the request of the public, so answer the call now and sign up while you still can for this great tour. Dude! Cruise meets Dutchland

The Dude! Cruise will have it's debut in the Netherlands on June 13th.

Some Dutchies may have heard rumors about the 13^th of June. Whatever it was you expected, we are making sure not to disappoint you… Exile Skimboards NL & DeSurfschool.nl present: Dia de el Dude Cruise at Hoek van Holland, Rechtestraat.

On the 13th of June 2010 the Dude Cruise will make its introduction into the Netherlands! And you are invited to test out this new shape, for free! But this is not your ordinary meeting. It’s a competition in which you are both going to be able to judge and be a competitor! We didn’t want to bore you with heats and the mean competitive side of things, so as a result you can just skim all you want, try our new board and have a good time! Then how are you supposed to win this event? Well, by the end of the day all contestants will vote for the winner in the following categories:

- Best ride wave & flatland

- Carpool Initiative; Largest group of people arriving in the same car

Dude! Cruise...

It is OFFICIAL! The Dude! Cruise.. that many of you have been hearing about, is officially ready for you the customer. This board is based off of the idea of a retro fish shape surfboard. It's wide in the nose so it can push through soft sections, but loose in the tail so you can still turn it on a dime. We've put it to the test in all conditions, and everyone comes up wanting more.

This board comes in three sizes, the Yacht (50.3 x 21, tailpoint's are 5" apart) as shown here, Woody Harris in ForeverSkimTheMag:

And the newest size, the USS Excelsior. This size is for riders about 190lbs and up. The dimensions are 22"x52.5", and it will float for years.

These three sizes will cover anyone from around 90 lbs. up to about 250 lbs., and the results have been great on both boards. Since there is so much surface area under your front foot, riders of varying weights can ride the same size board, whereas with narrower boards you need to bump up and down in size in about 20 lbs increments.

The Dude! Cruise comes standard in 3/4" foam planed down to 5/8" in the tail for as much float as possible, while still allowing the rider to lay on the tail for responsive turns. Our international team has been slaying waves and getting work done, while we've been here in Southern California waiting for the clouds to clear and some south swells to roll through. This week we were blessed with a video from our Brazilian representative, Lucas Gomes. Matheus Chiabi edited this piece up and it's definitely worth a taste. Matheus also edits the Brazil Kids videos that are always a worth-while watch.

Enough with the talk though. Check out this new mini movie of Lucas Gomes, once again proving why Exile Skimboards are the best skimboards in the world.

The GrAMmy's!

There have been whispers of us coming to Florida for an all Amateur contest, and the whispers will soon become shouts. Tickets are bought, flyers are out, we'll see you soon. Paulo Prietto, Steve Taylor and Tommy D'eliscu will be heading to the west coast of the east coast for some good ol' fashioned fun.

What are the GrAMmy's though? The GrAMmy's is an all amateur skimboarding contest hosted by Overhead Surf Shop, in Madeira Beach. It will take place on Sunday June, 13th. There will be three divisions: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Ourselves, Exile Skimboards, and the traction and accessory company, On A Mission are offering a sponsorship to the person that catches our eyes the most. We will be looking for skill, personality, and an all around display of things that we feel fit our criteria of being a team member, and the winner will be hand-picked by Paulo, Steve and Tommy.

There will also be a camp hosted by Paulo Prietto and his SolagSkimSchool from Thursday the 10th to Saturday the 12th. Sign up for as many days as you can handle! It will definitely be worth it. For more information contact Overhead Surf Shop, or SolagSkimSchool.
