John started skimming in Newport Beach in 8th grade. Initially skimming
Balboa Pier, he quickly made the move down to the Wedge which became his
favorite spot.
As the years went by he refined his skills on the best skim wave in the world, impressing locals and visiting pro's alike. In the spring of 2005, he blew everyone's minds at the West St. contest by catching one of the best in and out barrels in skim competition history, handily winning the contest at the buzzer. We wouldn't be surprised if that was only the beginning. |
